Mr. Robert HALLIGAN
An executive professional engineer, manager and engineering practitioner, Robert is internationally renowned for his role in the practice and improvement of technology-based projects. Robert obtained his engineering qualifications at the University of Melbourne and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, now RMIT University. After early engineering, engineering management and project management roles with Telecom Australia, Department of Defence (Australia), Rockwell International and Andrew Corporation, Robert has for the last twenty-two years contributed to major systems projects worldwide as both a consultant and trainer. Robert presents courses worldwide in: • Systems Engineering (5-Day) • Requirements Analysis – Specification Writing (5-Day) • OCD – CONOPS in Capability Development (5-Day) • Systems Engineering Management (5-Day) • A Systems Approach to Design (2-day) In his spare time, Robert also presents evening and weekend tutorials and complimentary presentations for worthy causes. He also presents the occasional shorter course in a facet of systems engineering.
Getting the Most out of “Work” Breakdown Structure Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) can be a powerful aid in effectively managing projects. But WBS (or “Project Breakdown Structure – PBS”, as Robert prefers to call it), is also easily misunderstood and misapplied. Robert’s coverage of the subject, in an interactive style, will include: • why WBS must not be just a breakdown of work • essential principles in adopting WBS as a management tool • failsafe rules for constructing effective WBS • relationships to other structures useful in project/engineering Management: System Breakdown Structure (SBS, Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS), Organisational Breakdown Structure (OBS), Specification Breakdown Structure (Specification Tree) • application of WBS to costing, scheduling, definition, risk analysis, measurement, reporting, organizational design, and control.
